Okay, I'm gonna try again and hope I don't lose my internet connection. My heart goes out to the victims and families at Virginia Tech. I'm sorry, but I feel the shooter was pure EVIL. It is one thing to hate your life and think you are getting screwed but in my opinion (from what I've read), this guy had no reason to have such a large chip on his shoulders. If you do, just kill yourself, not all these other innocent people who have done nothing to you but you feel the need to hate them anyways. These were kids he killed....peoples children, brothers, sisters, etc. And all the brave professors and students who sacrificed their lives trying to save others. I feel for the shooters parents. I assume they did the best they could for their son trying to give him a better life by bringing him to the US. Heck, he was a senior in college. He obviously did not lead a life of proverty. I know it is heartbreaking for all of these students and families. They are all in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that they know they have God to lean on for comfort and strength in this time.
Now,I have to send out big BOO's to the television networks, mainly NBC, who decided to air the footage of this evil person that he actually took to the post office and mailed between the first and second shootings. They are unbelievably callous and unfeeling to all the people who have suffered. And I have to say that my favorite network, FOX, also gets a thumbs down from me. Me and my kids had just finished watching American Idol and were rejoicing the fact that Sanjaya had finally been voted off when the cut to "breaking news" and immediately went to the video the shooter filmed. No warning whatsoever that these images are disturbing. So my kids were subjected to this, against my choice because I wasn't given any warning, before I could get the channel changed. It just totally disgusts me.
Now, I will give kudos to all the media that refused to air this footage or at least, finally realized what stupid mistake that had made in originally airing the footage, and decided to no longer air it (after the damage had been done). And big kudos to the radio talk show hosts that I listen to during work. The two local talk shows refused to air footage and the two syndicated shows I listened to, Mike Gallagher and Rush Limbaugh, refused to air the footage.
I would also like to address the law enforcement community and their response. First, I have nothing but utmost respect for them and the job they do in trying to keep our families and homes safe. It is easy to criticize in retrospect. The only criticism I have is that the school should have been kept on lockdown after the first shooting until they found him. But hopefully, all schools and universities will learn from this and come up with better measures to protect our children while they are entrusted in their care. (heck my daughter will be in college in two years) I know that my kids schools are again reviewing their security measures (which were just updated last year) and plan on making additional upgrades to it.
I won't even go into the issue of gun control and the fact that if professors with concealed carry permits were allowed to carry on campus, some of this killing may have been stopped a little sooner. Sometimes our own laws tie our hands, as we have seen in many instances with this occurance. Anyways, my thoughts and prayers are with the whole VT family as they come together to try to get through this.
