just talked to DeAnn
I had just finished posting that last post when DeAnn called me from Mississipi. No one has come out about the holes in her roof yet but her husband and a friend got up there and patched them so they have been able to keep the rain out so far. She just spent about $300 on groceries at WalMart because they had nothing. The Red Cross gave them about $600 but FEMA hasn't been in touch with them yet. She has a friend whose house got no damage whatsoever and they gave her $8000. That just isn't right!! The insurance company hasn't been able to get by their house yet to start a claim so even if she could find some roofers, they wouldn't be able to do anything yet. She said Kesler Air Force Base was in bad shape. They have no hospital, no commissary, no BX. And now, they are talking about moving her husband to San Antonio. So her life is pretty much up in the air right now. They would have to find a new house and she would have to find a new job (she loves the one she has right now). I don't know what they would do about the house she has now because they have a mortgage on it and it has damage. But I think they are taking it all pretty well considering everything. Oh Gina, the Tato-Nut survived and is up and running. They actually had to shut early the other because they ran out of food. There are no restaraunts or anything and tough finding groceries. Gosh, I feel so blessed.

Yay!! It's the weekend!!
Phew....it has been one looong week! But it is Saturday and I'm loving it. Claire and Erin are both at the inlaws. My FIL has been having serious back problems and had a bad night last night and he said he thought it would make him feel better if Claire came over. Knock me over with a feather! LOL So, they are both over there. Claire will eat supper with them and Erin is going to party tonight so it is kind of nice. I've gotten a little accomplished. I cleaned out the fish tank, washed a couple of loads of clothes and have dishwasher going....sounds like a pretty productive day to me! LOL I'm waiting on my friend in Mississipi to call me. I was worried about how much rain they may have gotten from Rita because she has those two big holes in her roof. And I saw there was a flood warning for the coastal area which is where she is. She was in WalMart when I called her and she said it was a madhouse. But her cell reception was bad so she is supposed to call me back.
We had one of our monthly meetings at work yesterday morning so had to go in early for that. Boooring. Anyways, they have a new girl entering our surgery charges. She has no experience with it and is making tons of mistakes and that is our main money. So after the meeting, I got called into the office and asked if I would consider returning to surgery coding. My first question was how much more they would pay me. It is a stressful job because the doctors are so difficult to deal with. They don't listen to you when you tell them you can't code certain things certain ways and want you to do it anyways. The job I have right now is not stressful (to me) for the most part and I enjoy doing it so I expect to be compensated if I'm going to take on a more stressful job that I don't really want. I pay over $500 a month in insurance for family coverage and I told them if they wanted to pay that for me.... But of course, they don't. So I told them thanks for thinking of me but I like my job right now. Who knows....maybe they'll reconsider but I would have to think really hard about it. Like I said, they would definitely have to make it worth my while. And they don't really have anyone else with the experience to do it except the nurses and they are barely keeping up with it as it is.
Anyways, we are taking the youth group to a concert tomorrow night at another church. I don't remember who the band is....I haven't heard of them but hopefully they will enjoy it. And they sent out a schedule of parents to help every week with the programs so that is a big load off of me. I'm in charge of the program the night we go to the haunted house or haunted trail or whatever we do. Well, I guess I'll do some house work? Probably not....maybe play around on the computer. hee hee

hello!
Hi everyone. Sorry it has been so long but it has been a busy time. I got an email from my friend, DeAnn, today. They got home to Mississippi sometime late Monday. She said they have two huge holes in their roof and there AC got blown. She said it is so hard to describe the destruction that is all around....and the smell. But otherwise her house is okay as far as I know. Rescue workers brought them lots of water and ice because the water still is drinkable. They have someone coming tomorrow to put tarps over the holes in their roof. I guess it is kinda hard to find roofers right now. She said there was so much debris around her house and that most of her neighborhood was destroyed. So she is feeling pretty lucky right now. She said that of all their offices (about 7) that they lost about 15 employees and one doctor. I'm assuming she means they had to relocate because they lost their homes but I haven't heard back from her regarding that. It looks like they will be okay with Hurricane Rita...I hope they don't get too much rain. Wouldn't go well with the holes in the roof. Those poor people on the Gulf Coast have just had it so hard. She asked that everyone continue to pray for them.
On to work....yes I finally got my hard drive for my computer and it is better but still not great. We obviously use a lot of memory and sometimes the computer just drags. Makes work difficult. Supposedly they were talking about getting more band width (totally clueless there) but it would cost an outrageous amount for Bellsouth to run a line for it just to use for a few months since we are moving to our new office in December so they are going to wait. Ugh!! Oh well, it could be worse....I could still be hooked up to the terminal server and get NOTHING done.
Bobby has had some kind of problem with his feet....hurting really bad and can't walk on them. I don't know if it is heel spurs or what. (I was even thinking gout). If it is still bothering him tomorrow, I'll get him worked in with one my docs. Claire is still enjoying school. She has started taking dance lessons once a week. They cover ballet, tap, etc. Erin is still Erin. Little Miss Attitude. Hates school. Dropped out of band. So now....we are trying to decide whether to sell her saxophone or save it in case Claire will want to play. But you know how that goes, if we save it Claire will want to play something else and if we sell it, she'll want to play it. Well, I guess that is it for now. Later!!

slowly losing it
Oh gosh, they are killing me slowly at work....as in computer running slowly. But my complaining paid off. They have ordered me a new hard drive to replace the one they jacked from me. Ordered it over a week ago and it STILL isn't here. I had to ask to make sure they really ordered it or I would have to start complaining louder! Well, I got some kind of battery backup thing today but it is no good without the hard drive. they are just teasing me!! Yeah, the office manager is one of those that talks really LOUD, so she came up to me in her normal loud voice and said "even though we can't afford it (whatever...my thought), they had ordered me a new hard drive". Then the administrator comes up (she talks very softly) and said "but don't tell anyone or they will all want one". I'm thinking...okay....everyone has already heard it first hand! Geesh. Now if it would just get here before I lose what little bit of my mind I have left. Anyways, not much going on here. We did start back our Wednesday night services....which means handbells! YAY! But the music is waaaay too hard. But I think I say that every year. Good thing I enjoy it!

Coldplay
Yeah, well, I went to see Coldplay last night....not by choice (not my kind of music). Anyways, we had bought Erin two tickets for her birthday. Original plan was for Bobby to take her but then one of her friends was going. Her older brother was taking her (graduated college, married, and very dependable) and he said he would take Erin and a friend. So she invited one of her friend's from church about a month or even two months ago. The night before the concert, she called her friend to make plans about picking up her up and then finds out that her Dad won't let her go. This is at 9pm on Thursday and the concert is on Friday. I was so pissed. Her dad directs my handbell choir and I know him very well. He said that his daughter did not remind him in enough time and she had her first piano lesson that day. Well, I can understand him punishing his daugther but now he ended up punishing MY daughter as well. I mean, come on, 9pm the night before the concert?? Anyways she was calling everyone she knew. Finally found someone to go with her and then the girl got sick and had to leave school early Friday and couldn't go. By then everyone else had plans and it was also high school football night so a lot of people were busy. Bless her heart, she had been so excited about this and was crying and crying. It broke my heart. Bobby hadn't been feeling well all day so I took her. She met up with her friend at the concert for a few minutes but our seats weren't together. Erin ended up having a good time but not near as much fun as she would have had with one of her friends. The concert was okay but not my kind of music. I let her play her CD's all the to and from the concert (ugh). LOL We were lucky with parking. The place we parked us, we were able to drive right out. So there is my rant. I'm still pretty upset with this girls father but I doubt I'll say anything about it. Besides, me and Erin got some "bonding" time which we don't get very often. Alls well that ends well. :)

better do this quick
Yes, I am having computer issues AGAIN....not the internet this time. I think I may have to reset my computer to factory settings. Only thing it I will lose all my pictures. :( Anyways, I saw my friend, DeAnn and her husband Richard, from Mississippi yesterday. They had talked to one of their neighbors who had checked on their house and said it looked like that had roof damage...don't know the extent, but the house otherwise looked okay. There may be water damage but they won't know until they get back because they had boarded it up. But the neighbor had phone service and water service but not power yet. She is "planning" on going back Monday because she wants to go back to work. The Biloxi office is up and running and I'm sure the Ocean Springs will be before long. But they can't go back until the Air Force okays her husband to come back. They said they will arrest him if he tries to come back before they say he can....geesh! lol And Gina, I asked them about the Tato-Nut and they know it VERY well! They said it is the best donut place around. They live off of Government Street. They are supposed to check on it when they get back and let me know how it fared. They were laughing at me because I had it all written down...the name, the street, and the people who own it. They call it the Tater-Nut though....go figure! LOL well, better post this before I get booted!

stupid charter!!
I am about to get really pissed off at my cable service. Stupid internet never works when you want it to and then it cuts off on you. I called them today and was on for about 20 minutes with this stupid automated thing that kept saying "say continue when the ready light is on and not flashing". Well, the damn thing kept flashing because and I couldn't say continue. It didn't understand some of the other choice words I said to it. Finally talked to a human and he said there was trouble in my area (which is not the trouble I am having because this has been going on for months). And I told him this and asked if he would send someone out to check. Well, he can't do that while there is trouble. So now I have to call back again when it screws up (which it will) and go through that stupid automated thing until I can talk to a person. Then I will get the run around and have to threaten to switch to a DSL. Geesh. Anyways, gonna publish this before I get booted off again. Bye!

complaining and stuff...
I had the worst day at work yesterday!! Someone had the "brilliant" idea to switch our CPU's and put us hooking up to the main server. Supposedly, the doctors needed the CPU's in the exam rooms. Well, what that did was make my work even harder. We have a billing system and an electronic medical records system. Since I post checks, I use the billing system. Well, it is running soooooooooo slow I can hardly do my work. I was so frustrated yesterday. It was all I could do not to pull my hair out. And they don't seem to care! If I can't get my work done, their money doesn't go in the bank. Can anyone say priorities???? Geesh. So I figure that if they don't care, I'll just have to do the best I can with what I have to work with. But I have such trouble putting myself in that mindset. I want to do my job and not be slowed down by a ridiculously slow running computer. It has cut my production in half...not to mention what it has done to my nerves. And trust me, I complained several times about it. They have spend all this $$ on a computer system so what is a few dollars more to make sure the money to pay for it gets in the bank?? And my internet service at home has been screwed up. Half the time, it doesn't work. It is a cable modem. Seems if the cable is working on TV, the internet should be. It seems to be doing okay today. But it should be available all the time. If and when it screws up again, I'll give them one chance to fix it then I'm switching to a DSL. Nothing worse that not being able to get on the internet when you want to.
Update on my friend DeAnn from Mississippi....a friend of hers that lives about two blocks from her in Ocean Springs went and checked on her own house (her parents live in Mobile). She said she had some roof damage and downed trees and thought DeAnn's house was about the same. She didn't actually check on DeAnn's house though. But hers is a newer house that had to be built with hurricane straps so she is optimistic. Her friend told her not to even bother trying to come down there right now because there is no gas, no power, no water, etc. Her husband is coming home from Alaska (to SC) so they will take it from there. From what I understand, Keesler AFB (where he is stationed) received some major damage too so it will be closed for a while. Her office seemed to be okay but won't open again for about a month. I think she may come and do some work in our office while she is here (which will be great!) My MIL talked to her brothers and sister that live in LA and they are all okay...just no power. I'm still watching the coverage on TV and it just breaks my heart. I just can't imagine going through what all these people are.
